About us
Welcome to Equine Vets of New Zealand, a special interest branch of the NZVA.
With over 270 members working in veterinary practices from Whangarei to Invercargill, the Equine Vets of New Zealand (EVNZ) is one of the largest and most active of the NZVA’s 14 special interest branches.
Equine Vets of New Zealand
- Provide leadership within the New Zealand equine industry to improve the health and welfare of horses.
- Promote excellence within the veterinary profession as the primary guardians of the health and welfare of horses.
- Promote the value of proven science based equine veterinary medicine to our clients.
Equine health and welfare
Equine Vets of New Zealand works closely with all sectors of the equine industry on health and welfare issues. The knowledge and experience of our members has been used to develop equine industry policies on a number of racing, sport-horse and equine welfare issues. Our experience has also been called upon to set regulations for the transportation and quarantine of horses travelling to and from New Zealand.
Professional excellence
Equine Vets of New Zealand promotes excellence within the veterinary profession by providing educational and professional development opportunities to veterinarians who in turn provide the highest standard of service to their clients.
The conferences and workshops we host each year attract world class speakers on all aspects of equine veterinary science.
Equine Vets of New Zealand has close affiliations with all the major veterinary schools and many international equine research institutions. We support research and education within the New Zealand equine industry by way of donations and resource support.
Science based veterinary medicine
Equine Vets of New Zealand promotes the practice of science based veterinary medicine. At a time when many untrained and unlicensed individuals are actively selling unproven therapies, we realise the importance of offering clients a service based on proven veterinary science.
